FAQ

How does ACC treatment work?

If you have had an accident and need treatment for injury, you can claim for treatment and rehabilitation therapy with ACC. You do not need a referral from your GP. Your ACC claim can be registered when you visit the clinic. This includes sports injuries, workplace injuries, home injuries, car accidents and all pre and post surgical injuries.

ACC only pays part of the charge and therefore there is a surcharge which has to be met by the patient.

ACC patient help line number is 0800 101 996 for any further queries

Do I need a Doctor’s referral?

No doctor’s referral is necessary, in most cases. You may need a doctors referral for repetitive strain injuries or occupational overuse injuries.

Health Insurance Companies

Some insurance companies cover you for physiotherapy and rehabilitation exercise – check your policy to see if yours covers physiotherapy treatment.

Work Injuries

Some companies provide their employees with medical and/or accident insurance and the additional charge/surcharge may be covered. If this is the case you will need to check with your employer the policy conditions as you may need to be referred by a GP and the number of treatments allowed may be limited.
